Can I do my degree in English?

Of course you can! And it has lots of benefits, too.

Do you want to start studying at a university or university of applied sciences where courses are held in English? Go for it! You don’t need to be a linguistic genius to do a degree taught in a foreign language. School-leaving certificate proficiency is more than enough – even if English wasn’t your favourite subject at school.

Nowadays, there are hardly any industries where employees aren’t expected to have good English skills. If you do your degree in English, it gives you a high level of confidence when you use the language.

“You don’t need to be able to quote Shakespeare to study in English”

...as our experts from the Prospective Student Advisory Service point out. English courses at a university aren’t anything like the English lessons you take at school. Here at the uni, we use English as our working language. Which is good training for whatever comes next, because in many professions you’ll need to use English every day. So you’ll be learning English “on the side”, so to speak, during your degree programme. A great added extra!

Specialist concepts? You’ll learn them on your degree programme

Whether you choose business, engineering and technology or life sciences – every subject has its own specialised concepts and terminology. But don’t worry! You won’t need to do any cramming before your degree programme begins. You’ll pick up all the specialist vocabulary you need during your studies.

The benefits of an English-language degree programme

  • You can perfect your English
  • You develop professional-level proficiency in English – which looks great on your CV
  • Better English gives you a head start in your job

English: a boost for your career

You’ll also need English skills further down the line. Nowadays, there are hardly any industries where employees aren’t expected to have good English skills. If you do your degree in English, it gives you a high level of confidence when you use the language – in writing and when you’re speaking. So you can include professional-level proficiency on your CV to describe your standard of English. Which makes a great impression whatever job you want to apply for after your studies.

Gateway to the world: the international community at your uni

At university you’ll be studying alongside lots of international students. Some of them will be native English speakers, some won’t. With such a mix of native and non-native speakers, talking English is the easiest option. It goes without saying that you might make the odd mistake now and again. But that’s not the point – it’s all about communication. And the numerous contacts you’ll make with people from all over the world. So, let’s go!

Did you know that IMC Krems has always had a strong international focus? People from more than 70 countries study in Krems. And around half of our degree programmes are offered in English.
