IMC Krems is the only Austrian University of Applied Sciences to be listed in one of the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) rankings in 2022 and 2023. The THE Impact Rankings 2024 evaluated 2,152 universities, making it the most comprehensive and diverse sustainability ranking for universities worldwide.
The THE Impact Rankings are the only performance tables that assess universities against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Carefully calibrated indicators are used to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad themes: Research, Administration, Knowledge Transfer and Teaching.
IMC Krems took part in the assessment of five SDG goals and is one of only two universities in Austria and the only University of Applied Sciences in Austria to be listed among the best institutions worldwide.
Ratings in 5 SDGs
In the ranking for "SDG 4 - Quality Education", which deals with ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, IMC Krems is listed among the best 601-800 universities.
The ranking for "SDG 5 - Gender Equality" measures gender equality, gender equality policy and commitment to the recruitment and advancement of women. Here, IMC Krems is listed in the top 401-600. Compared to the previous year (rank 601-800), a significant increase is visible.
In the ranking for "SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", which deals with industry and innovation, the number of patents and spin-off companies as well as research funding from industry, IMC Krems is listed among the 401-600 best universities, as it was in 2023.
The ranking for "SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities" is about reducing inequality within and between countries. IMC Krems provided data on this SDG for the first time this year and was immediately ranked among the 601-800 best universities worldwide.
In the ranking for "SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production", which deals with responsible consumption and the approach to sustainable use of resources, IMC Krems is among the 401-600 best universities.

Our new additions Global Sustainability and Circular Business* and Sustainable Chemistry and Digital Processing* are particularly noteworthy," says Martin Waiguny, Academic Head of IMC Krems.
Sustainability Coordinator Victoria Englmaier is also delighted: "Our position in the THE Impact Rankings shows that sustainability is a key priority at our university. We remain committed to further expanding and promoting sustainable practices at our university."
About the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings
The Impact Ranking of the British magazine Times Higher Education assesses the efforts of universities with regard to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to research and teaching, universities are asked how they contribute to society, how they transfer knowledge and technology and how they fulfil their role model function for good working conditions, compliance with equality and diversity standards and ecologically oriented action. The universities themselves decide which of the 17 sustainability goals they participate in the ranking. The Impact Rankings took place for the sixth time in a row this year and included 2,152 universities from 125 countries.
