Engineering Responsible AI-Systems* master degree programme
*Start of studies: Autumn 2025 - subject to approval by AQ Austria Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly revolutionising various societal sectors, presenting us with the urgent task of designing these systems responsibly. Consequently, the demand for highly qualified professionals who can operate at the intersections of computer science, sustainability and ethics is steadily rising.
Our master degree programme in Engineering Responsible AI Systems has been developed to meet these exact needs. Our innovative programme equips you with the skills to develop and evaluate AI systems for various industries, integrating ethical, regulatory and sustainable principles throughout the process.
This is the tuition fee for EU and EEA citizens. In addition, the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) dues amount to EUR 24.70. Please note that different tuition fees apply for non-EU citizens.
The degree programme: Master of Science (MSc)
AI is playing an increasingly important role in many areas of our lives. Our master degree programme in Engineering Responsible AI Systems responds to this trend by focusing on the development of advanced AI systems that respects ethical guidelines, transparency, and environmental sustainability.
AI meets ethical considerations
With all the hype around AI, it is essential to address the ethical aspects of these emerging technologies. The field of AI ethics deals with the safe and ethical application of AI technologies. This includes issues such as data privacy, the avoidance of biases, and the necessity for transparency.
Through the principles of responsible AI, we ensure that technological development aligns with ethical standards and minimises potential negative impacts. This, in turn, maximises trust and societal acceptance.
Building on this, explainable AI aims to make complex decisions made by AI systems understandable, especially in highly critical areas such as medicine, finance, and public administration.
Given the increasing regulatory requirements, such as the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AIA), there will be a growing need for professionals who can assess and evaluate the technical and societal impacts of AI systems and implement the appropriate technical and organisational measures.
All these aspects are comprehensively covered in our programme.
AI for a better world
How can industrial processes be optimised? What opportunities arise in waste management and recycling? Green AI provides an answer: during your studies, you will focus on the development of resource-efficient AI systems that support sustainable and clean technologies.
Equally essential in this context is sustainable AI, which aims to minimise the environmental impact and carbon footprint of AI systems. This principle is, of course, firmly embedded in our curriculum.
Expertise in a dynamic environment
Our programme is designed for graduates of technical bachelor degree programmes as well as professionals with practical experience in the technical field who want to become experts in developing responsible AI systems.
Collaborations with research institutions and companies ensure a wide applicability of the acquired knowledge across various industries.
Upon completion of the programme, you will have a wide range of opportunities: thanks to the international orientation of the programme, job prospects will be available both domestically and abroad.
